Volkswagen has announced the end of two versions of the Arteon: the liftback, which was discontinued in 2023, and the Shooting Brake, which was retired earlier than expected in 2024.

The Shooting Brake, never sold in the United States, was produced at the Osnabrück plant, while the liftback model came from Emden. Over eight years of Arteon production, around 190,000 units were manufactured, including the long-roof Shooting Brake, which was produced for five years.

The end of the Arteon was confirmed by Martin Hube, the brand’s spokesperson, who also mentioned that the model’s discontinuation was brought forward to 2024, with production ceasing at the Osnabrück plant.

Volkswagen will continue to produce the T-Roc Cabriolet until mid-2027, but the future of the plant after this period remains uncertain, as the automaker explores new possibilities for the site.

In addition to the end of the Arteon, Volkswagen has also bid farewell to its VR-6 engine after nearly 34 years of production. The automaker had planned a more expensive luxury car to replace the Arteon, with a prototype of a second-generation Phaeton revealed in 2022. However, due to the Dieselgate scandal, the project was canceled, and VW shifted its focus to other models.
